Under The Same Sun
Participating Artists
Under the Same Sun celebrates the creativity and artistic expression of young people across the Cayman Islands. Presented through a partnership between the Department of Education Services and the Cayman National Cultural Foundation, this exhibition highlights the imagination, talent, and perspectives of the next generation of artists.
Post Secondary
The Post Secondary category highlights the work of emerging young artists who are beginning to define their individual creative voices while preparing for the next stage of their artistic practice. Students within the post-secondary are ages 16-18 and participate in formal instruction as a part of their educational journeys. At this level, students often demonstrate a deeper engagement with materials, subject matter, and personal expression, drawing inspiration from both their immediate surroundings and broader cultural influences.

The artworks in this section reveal a growing confidence in experimentation and technique. Students explore a variety of mediums including painting, drawing, mixed media, and conceptual approaches, using art as a way to communicate ideas, emotions, and observations about the world around them. Many of these pieces reflect thoughtful exploration of themes such as identity, imagination, nature, and the evolving experiences of youth.

Upper Secondary
The Upper Secondary category showcases students who are continuing to strengthen their artistic skills while exploring more complex ideas and creative approaches. At this stage, young artists begin to develop a stronger understanding of composition, colour, form, and visual narrative, allowing them to communicate their ideas with increasing clarity and confidence.

The artworks featured in this section demonstrate both technical growth and creative curiosity. Students experiment with a wide range of materials and techniques, from detailed drawings and vibrant paintings to layered mixed media works that combine texture, colour, and symbolism. Many of these pieces reflect personal interests, environmental influences, and imaginative interpretations of everyday life.

Lower Secondary
The Lower Secondary category celebrates the creativity and artistic exploration of students who are building strong foundations in visual art. At this stage, students are encouraged to experiment freely with materials, techniques, and subject matter while developing essential artistic skills such as observation, composition, colour theory, and design.

The artworks presented here reflect a wide range of inspirations drawn from the natural world, everyday experiences, and imaginative storytelling. Through drawing, painting, sculpture, and mixed media, students explore themes such as animals, landscapes, movement, and abstract forms. These pieces capture the excitement of discovery as young artists learn how to transform ideas and observations into visual expression.

This section highlights the importance of nurturing creativity during these formative years. By encouraging experimentation and curiosity, students gain confidence in their artistic abilities while learning how art can serve as a powerful tool for communication, exploration, and self-expression.
Primary
The Primary category features the joyful and imaginative work of the youngest artists participating in the exhibition. At this stage of development, creativity is driven by curiosity, exploration, and the natural desire to express ideas visually. Students are encouraged to experiment with colour, shape, and texture while discovering the many possibilities that art offers.

The artworks in this section are often inspired by the world that surrounds these young artists. Animals, landscapes, family life, and imaginative scenes frequently appear as students translate their observations and stories into vibrant compositions. Using materials such as paint, markers, crayons, and mixed media, these artists demonstrate a playful and fearless approach to creativity.
