Kara Julian

Kara Julian is a Caymanian artist whose vibrant and versatile practice spans fine art, hand-painted glassware, murals and community-based art experiences. Drawing much of her inspiration from the island’s lush flora, fauna and seascapes, Julian’s work is rooted in a deep sense of place and cultural identity.

She began her artistic journey in 1997 as a decorative artist and over the years her portfolio has expanded to include vivid acrylic paintings, custom chalkboard signage, and large-scale murals. Her work celebrates the natural beauty of the Cayman Islands and serves to remind us of the enduring times to heritage.

Within the context of Circles of Time, her paintings resonate as visual expressions of memory, movement and belonging. Her work offers a gentle meditation on the cyclical rhythms of nature and the passage of time. Through bold brushwork and a touch of lyrical sensitivity, Julian reminds us that ancestry and tradition are not only remembered but continually shaped by our relationship to place – to land, water and one another.

Sea Foam

Acrylic on Canvas

18 in x 38 in

In Seafoam, Kara Julian captures the rhythmic meeting of the sea and shore; an image that echoes the movement of memory and the cyclical nature of return. The swirling white foam, rendered with rich texture and detail, evokes the delicate boundary between permanence and change, mirroring the steady repetition of tides that shape not only our Caymanian coastline but also our cultural and ancestral narratives.

Rooted in the Cayman Islands, Julian’s painting invites viewers to consider the natural world as a living archive of time. At the ocean’s edge, a place of constant convergence, stories wash ashore, memories are carried forward, and the past is continually rewritten in the present. In this way, Seafoam becomes a quiet mediation on belonging, rootedness, and the ever-moving waters of identity.
